Virgin Birth – Talking to Mormons

Virgin Birth – Talking to Mormons

Is it true that Mormons believe Jesus was literally the physical offspring of Mary and
God? Elder Young
We believe that Jesus is meaning that He was the literal “offspring” of Father in Heaven and Mary. They are Jesus’ physical parents – one
being his immortal Father and the other his mortal mother. Ava
That becomes a little problematic, as it would change Mary’s status as a virgin. Are you saying that God, as a resurrected,
physical man, literally had intercourse with Mary to procreate Jesus as his son in the
flesh? That’s kind of a crude way of stating it
but in, essence that is what our leaders have taught. Ava
In other words, Mormonism denies that Jesus was “begotten” by the Holy Ghost. Elder Young
That’s right. Prophet Brigham Young taught – Ava
Considering how Mormonism teaches that every human born on earth is a literal child of
God, the previous quote becomes even more disconcerting. Elder Smith
How so? Ava
Mormon leaders have maintained that all humans, Mary included, If the LDS leaders are telling the truth when
they say that God physically impregnated Mary, then I have to assume that the Jesus of Mormonism
was created through an incestuous relationship. Elder Smith
Then what is your viewpoint on Jesus’ conception? Ava
My view of Christ’s origin is radically different from the Mormon teaching. As Christians we believe what the Bible teaches
– that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, became a mortal by being conceived in the womb of
the virgin Mary by the miraculous creative power of the Holy Spirit. This event is accurately recorded in two separate
gospels. Will you read, Matthew, chapter 1, verse 18? Elder Smith
Sure! Ava
Now, please read, Luke 1: 34 and 35. Ava
Either you believe what Mormon leaders teach, or you believe what God has spoken through
His Word, the Bible. Both can’t be right. Elder Young
Because we believe in modern prophets – whatever our leaders teach is current light and knowledge
on this doctrine. Ava
Are you saying that current doctrine taught by your leaders overrides even the Book of
Mormon? Ava
Read, Alma 7: 10. Elder Smith
Ok. Ava
The Book of Mormon is wrong about where Christ was born. But it is right about the role of the Holy
Ghost. I ask you – Who then is correct regarding
Christ’s conception – Your modern-day prophets, or the Book of Mormon prophets? Once again, both can’t be right!

This is not being promoted in Mormon circles today, and for good reason – Christians of all stripes would find this highly offensive , including those from mainline or liberal denominations.

  6. When Mormons teach about the Virgin Birth of Jesus, they do not mean the same thing we do as Christians and they know this. According to Mormonism, God the Father, who has a body of flesh and bones (since he was a man), came to earth and had a physical sex with Mary, his own daughter and begot Jesus' physical body.
